WHY IS CORRECT BLADE MOUNTING IMPORTANT?

Because alignment is crucial, mounting must be done accurately. Fractions of millimeters make huge differences. The smallest misalignment increases fatigue and reduces performance as you need to constantly over-correct. This could even lead to injuries.

WHO CAN MOUNT THE BLADE?

As alignment is so important, we recommend only using a professional skate technician. They have the skill, the tools and the expertise to ensure your blade is mounted perfectly.

WHAT THE TECHNICIAN DOES?

Mounting the blade is as much a science as it is an art, and requires a knowledgeable technician who has a good eye, a good ear, and professional equipment. Not all skating or anatomy is the same, and the tech that mounts your boots should be someone who knows how to properly assess the athlete’s needs and translate that into the ideal alignment and mount for that individual. This goes hand-in-hand with a technical understanding of the skating boots and blades.
The final check is carried out during the sharpening phase when the technician may use this time to check the boot and blade alignment, mounting hardware security, and evenness of the blade edges.
Hardworking skaters may visit their technician every couple of months, so we recommend building a relationship.

WHAT IS MY CORRECT BLADE SIZE?

Firstly, we need to choose the correct blade for our discipline and skating level.
Whatever the discipline, the length of the blade is determined by the size of the boot. This allows the contact points to line up with the “active” parts of the blades.
The rocker with the ball of the foot and the center of the heel blade with your heel for the best control and quickest response.
Longer blades do not line up, slowing response, reducing control and causing possible injuries as you overcompensate.

At Edea our designers realized our soles with a particular shape that requires a slightly shorter blade size than traditional boots on the market.
A slightly shorter blade increased control and maneuverability. Power is also increased as it is less dispersed. This translates into huge advantages in step, edge, and direction changes.

Blades are still measured in inches, thirds for starter blades and quarters for high level blades. This length is the distance between toe plates and heel plates.
As our boots are measured for internal length in millimeters, we have provided a guide for the correct blade length. Your coach and the skate technician will be able to provide the final advice.

WHICH SCREWS THEY SHOULD USE?

ONLY THE EDEA SCREWS THAT ARE SUPPLIED WITH YOUR BOOTS!
This is because our screws are specifically designed to be compatible with our thinner soles. We chose superior high-tech screws that have a HI-LOW double helix thread. This increases the ‘bite’ surface making them more efficient, forming a tighter lock which holds for significantly longer. The double helix also allows us to engineer the screws to be shorter and increase hold, which means we can use them with our thinner sole for better feel. The tips have also been flattened to remove the risk of discomfort.
